SHORT ANSWER

Because there’s a real tension inside you. Part of you wants what’s easy or comfortable, while another part of you wants something deeper and better. That tension is normal—but it doesn’t have to control you.

Why do I want the right things but still choose the wrong ones?

You know what’s good for you. You want peace, purpose, maybe even a better relationship with God.

But then something else pulls you—habits, impulses, distractions—and suddenly you’re off track again.

It can make you feel stuck or even fake.

What did Jesus say about this struggle?

Jesus actually acknowledged this tension. He said the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41).

And you’re not alone in it.

Hebrews shows us that Jesus understands what it’s like to be tempted. He faced real pressure—and didn’t give in.

That matters because it means He doesn’t just judge you—He helps you.

What can I do next?

Don’t try to “fix everything” at once.

Instead, start by noticing your triggers. What situations pull you away from who you want to be?

Then bring that specific struggle to God. Ask for help in that one area. Growth doesn’t happen all at once—it happens one honest step at a time.
